At City of Bristol College, we deliver transformative education in inclusive and dynamic learning environments and for our employees, this is no different so why not come and join us? With recent investments in our already outstanding facilities, the College has a great deal on offer for you.

One of our key strategic aims is our unrelenting focus on our people-first culture, ensuring you feel valued, empowered, and recognised for your individual contributions and expertise whether that be in a teaching capacity or a professional services team. All colleagues within the College contribute to the success of our students and we actively work to eliminate any barriers at work, ensuring you have the opportunity to thrive.

We are looking for someone with experience of working as a Communication Support Worker in education. You must be flexible in your approach to facilitate communication for a wide range of deaf and hard of hearing students. You must be confident in working in a fast-paced environment, with changing priorities. It is essential you hold a level 3 qualification in BSL.

What we offer:

Our people-first ethos provides a highly supportive, flexible approach to enable you to excel within your role and to reach your full potential. In return, you can expect the following:

Two-week paid Christmas close down and additional paid time off over Easter on top of a generous holiday entitlement of 26 holiday days, plus bank holidays (pro-rata for part time roles).

Membership to the Local Government Pension Scheme with employer contributions of 18.0 %

Paid Volunteering leave (3 days a year)

Family friendly policies including paid fertility and foster friendly policy

A menopause policy outlining support available

A person-centred annual appraisal focusing on your wellbeing and CPD

Access to a benefits portal including shopping discounts and cycle to work scheme plus lots more!

The 'Right to Disconnect' from work outside of your normal working hours

A supportive, highly utilised hybrid and flexible working policy

An Aspiring Leaders programme open to all plus our Management Academy for all management roles covering management skill and internal processes

Welfare Rooms at all our sites for professional breakout and relaxation spaces

A bespoke programme of recognition, reward and celebration for colleagues throughout the year to recognise your hard work.

We are committed to promoting a diverse and inclusive community - a place where we can all be ourselves and succeed. We aspire to have a diverse and inclusive workplace and strongly encourage applicants from a wide range of backgrounds to apply to join us. As a disability confident employer, we take a trauma informed approach to our work, support the Care Leavers covenant, and have been awarded accreditation as a College of Sanctuary for refugees.

Please have a look through our Staff Benefits Booklet for even more.

About your role:

Successful candidates will work with a diverse cohort of learners and use a range of appropriate strategies of support to encourage the development of the learner within educational, social, linguistic and cultural contexts.

You will provide Deaf Awareness training, advice and guidance for teaching staff and/or peer group/front line staff and to involve the learners whenever possible. You will join a committed team, who work closely with students and other college staff, to reduce barriers to learning, increase opportunities towards improved outcomes, maximise success, enable greater autonomy and develop further independence for all learners.

You will also deliver an effective communication support service through working closely with deaf and hard of hearing learners on barriers to learning under the direction of teachers and/or supervisors, leading to improved outcomes for learners and greater autonomy and independence. You will maximise the success of deaf and hard of hearing learners who have a communication support need, working closely with teaching staff and supporting colleagues.

You will also need to be able to build and maintain excellent working relationships with stakeholders, at all levels, internally and externally, as well as other members of College staff and students.
